How to Clean your Airbrush
The most important thing to remember is, don’t leave it too late. There’s nothing worse than trying to clean dried out paint.
What you will need:
- Range of small cleaning Brushes. We have a perfect 7 piece cleaning set.
- Airbrush Cleaner. We have a range of Airbrush Cleaners specifically designed for Airbrushes.
- Cleaning Wipes
- 2 small pots
- Face Mask
- Nozzle Wrench
- Latex Gloves
Cleaning the Airbrush Step 1
- Start by cleaning out the paint cup with a cleaning wipe.
- Once that is complete add a very small amount of Airbrush Cleaner into the paint cup. Hold your finger over the end of the airbrush and back flush the airbrush by pushing and pulling on the trigger.
- Empty out any excess airbrush cleaner into one of your bowls and then spray the remaining cleaner through. After this, give the paint cup another wipe with a cleaning wipe.
- Repeat this process until there is no debris left in the paint cup. Recommended 2-3 times.
Cleaning the Airbrush Step 2
- Now it’s time to strip the brush. Unscrew the handle at the back of the airbrush. Once the handle is removed gently pull the Needle back but Don’t remove it.
- Unscrew the Needle cap at the front of the airbrush. Place that in your spare bowl.
- Unscrew the Nozzle cap, again place in your bowl.
- Then using your Nozzle Wrench unscrew the Nozzle and place that in the bowl as well.
- Add a small amount of Airbrush cleaner into the bowl just to cover the airbrush components. This prevents any small amount of paint in these small components from drying and clogging it.
- Loosen the chuck not at the back of the airbrush and pull the Needle out through the front. This prevents you from damaging the delicate tip.
Cleaning the Airbrush Step 3
- Place your finger over the front of the airbrush and add a small amount of Airbrush cleaner into the Paint cup. Using one of your small brushes, clean out the paint cup. Then let the cleaner just run out of the front of the airbrush.
- Give the nozzle of the airbrush a good clean with your brush. Preferably using a clean brush clean out the paint cup again.
Cleaning the Airbrush Step 4
- Add a bit of Airbrush cleaner to a cleaning wipe and pull the needle through the cloth, while rotating the needle. Be careful not to bend the tip of the needle.
- Once the needle is clean, loosen the chuck nut and place the needle back into the front of the airbrush. Pull it back through until the tip of the airbrush goes into the front of the airbrush.
- Take a clean brush and take out the nozzle that has been sat in the Airbrush cleaner, push the brush through to clean any paint still in there. When that is complete, blow hard from the pointy end to clear any small debris. Reattach the nozzle with the nozzle wrench. Don’t tighten too much. You could break the threads.
- Next clean the Nozzle cap with your brush. Then clean thoroughly with a cleaning wipe and again blow through the nozzle to get rid of any debris. Reattach to the airbrush. Then push the Needle forward until you feel it stop.
- Test the spray pattern.
- Take out the Needle cap from the Airbrush cleaner and reattach. To the Airbrush. Reattach the handle.
